She's always buying books that teach you how to do cool stuff, and she never uses them! So I got her to lend me a knitting book, and she learned to knit with me (even though she always unravels whatever she knits!) I've made a ton of stuff: a white hat for me, a green one for my little bro, a tiny teddy, a scarf, a poncho and a couple of useless pieces of cloth! I just can't stop! Name: Kim Subject: Yarn Addict Comment: I love this site, I've gotten so many great patterns from it. I'm an "advanced beginner" knitter, but I'm trying some more advanced patterns now. I have fallen in love with yarn! I just like the way it feels, and the gorgeous colors! It's hard for me to leave a craft store or yarn store without buying something! And you can get some good yarn buys on E-Bay! I have 3 big plastic tubs full of yarn, my husband looks at me a little funny but as long as we can pay the mortgage he indulges my yarn addiction!! Comment: Hi MousieWoman here, I really enjoy talking about my knitting in here. I'm just so happy to know there are alot of knitters out there!! I am working on my 4th scarf!! (I think those are the easyest to do. I'm making a pretty pink scarf.The only bad thing about the knitting is sometimes if you overdo it, your hands hurt and you have to take a break (even if you really want to knit! )My crochet squeakers(mice) say"hi" Name: TJ Subject: Just can't put the needles down.... Comment: I've been knitting (off and on) for countless years now, but never finished a project. Until I found this site. Now there's just so many wonderful projects in my head I can barely keep up! Just recently, I finished the Flickering Flames Skirt (in a lovely, shimmery black yarn) for a convention costume. I wore it over red petticoats, to really show off the pattern. Absolutely everyone that I spoke to at the convention loved the skirt and wanted to know where I bought it. When I told them I knitted it, they were amazed! Knitting is not only a relaxing, portable project (I take my knitting with me literally everywhere), it's also helping me to quit smoking. I just don't want to set the needles down long enough to smoke a cigarette! A word of advice: if you can find it, get yourself a copy of The Knitting Answer Book by Margaret Radcliffe. Once I finished the skirt, I found myself itching for a new project, so I started a shawl (in mohair). The pattern calls for garter stitch, and after all this time playing with more advanced techniques, I found I couldn't remember what a garter stitch was! This book is fantastic for beginners and experts alike, whether you need instruction on how to knit, or just a refresher on something that's slipped your mind. Happy knitting! It took me longer than most people and I couldn't understand by watching other people. I am Left handed and dyslexic with ADD. The odds were against me. I was able to teach myself from the stitch n' Bitch book and now I have knit 10 bears for the motherbear project and over 60 preemie hats and booties for the NICU at the hospital my son was born at. Name: DeeDee Subject: A Rewarding Challenge Comment: Since I taught myself knitting in November '06, I've discovered something about myself: I love a challenge. I don't find knitting very easy, but I find that I love to challenge myself to try something new every time I pick up the needles, and how weird it is to realize that I've been doing an increase backwards for weeks without realizing it! It's really rewarding to finally get something right on the umpteenth try, even if I have to start all over again so that I actually have something to show for my self-challenges. Many OB units give a baby blanket to the new moms and need people to make them.
