Your website is brilliant as it offers so many more squares and other pattern to encourage me to do more. I aim to make a blanket large enough to fit across my double bed to make it cheerful to a dull room. Name: Wendy Subject: Knitting Comment: My Grandmother learned me to knit at the age of 7, by 9 I was knitting my own dolls clothes ! having not knitted for years (Im now 36) I thought I would take it up again, and found this page with the baby born cardigan pattern, which I knitted (with just a few glitches) for my 20 month old daughters baby born doll, having only just began knitting a couple of weeks ago I'm back in full swing and full speed. The easy patterns, fantastic clear instructions, and small projects like this cardigan are great for re-gaining the knitting confidence again. I can't praise this site enough. By the way- the wee caridgan is beautiful and fits a dream! Name: Gina Subject: Re-Learning Comment: I learned to knit as a girl, my mother taught me. As a teen I had completed different things like scarves, afghans, potholders, and even a sweater. Then life became busy with college, marriage, kids etc etc and I didnt knit for close to 18 years. Just recently I decided to pick up the hobby again. Took some frustrating evenings of trial and error and research on the net. I am now totally addicted and have printed a bunch of patterns to work on....cant wait! Name: Sarah Subject: Knitting Comment: Hello, I am 71 now and have been knitting since I was 4. I was taught by a lady on a bus going to school in the mornings (this was in the UK). I kept my craft going by undoing squares in my grandmothers knitted quilt. Have knitted mostly Aran all these years, now into Afghans. Name: Rose Subject: Learning to knit Comment: I came to knitting by way of crocheting and beadwork. All I wanted to do was to learn how to bead crochet, I had asked my sister if she would teach me to crochet sometime. She accepted the challenge, and proceeded to teach me. Well I was with her one week-end and there she was knitting booties. I looked at her and asked if that was easier than learning to crochet and with a sly smile she said yes. She showed me how to cast-on and I've been knitting ever since. Now I'm happy to say I've almost finished a pair of socks and have another pair started on circulars. She's also taken to locking up her yarn stash because I'm constantly looking through it. It's a wonderful legacy that has come our way and I'm happy to share it with my sisters! Name: Louise Subject: knitting Comment: I taught myself how to crochet when I was about 22 years old and taught myself how to knit a little at that age. I've been knitting alot for about 6 years, scarfs, baby hats, mittens. I still haven't been successful at knitting baby booties. I've been knitting scarfs for family members as gifts. I am now 54 years old and hope to continue crocheting and knitting. I would like to encourage others to don't give up, but try, try again! If you mess up, take it out and start all over again, practice makes perfect! HAPPY KNITTING! Name: Tabitha Subject: I LOVE KNITTING Comment: I began knitting in a girls arts and crafts club when I was in 6th grade. At first, I was absolutely terrible at it. Everyone else seemed to do so much better than me. I was disappointed, especially when the instructors didn't let me take my scarf that I had begun home. But finally, they let me after weeks of showing them I could do it on my own. I was the first to finish my scarf and am to date the best knitter in my group of friends. One of my friends loves crochet, and I completely failed at that, and she completely failed at knitting! Keep on going no matter what, I am now stepping into more complicated patterns and am so excited. Don't quit! Don't quit! My friends had no trouble with it at all and people love what I knit! Name: Tabitha Subject: teaching my sister! Comment: I forgot to mention that I have a six year old sister who is eager to learn! My mom also is and I am excited to teach them. Hope, (my sissy) wanted me to make her a scarf and a hat and I told her that she should learn to make her own scarf and she lit up! I can't wait. And a funny story is, once my dad was at a garage sale and he found a HUGE bag full of yarn and needles for knitting. He asked the lady if he could take it and she gave him 3 more HUGE bags. I was so excited! I had left the bags in my garage though because my siblings would like to get into them. A few months later I went outside and my dog was having the time of her life...with my yarn! It was funny but I was angry because yarn is about 3-5 dollars a package where I live, so I was dissappointed, but it was pretty funny, (I still find yarn strands lying around today!) Name: Sarah Z Subject: take on the challenge Comment: I posted one before but I am conquering my first sweater. I was nervous but after reading some inspirations from here I am on my way to a thick warm sweater. Holes are knitters signatures. Name: Laura Subject: felting Comment: Hello all, I crocheted years ago and just started to seriously try to knit. I'm slowly getting a little better and have made mittens, scarves and hats. Today I just finished my first project with circular needles and double points. Yikes. I was so worried I was going to ruin all my work when I went to double points. I've never used them. It came out sooo good! It was a felted hat and I just love it. Thanks for the encouragement I've read on here, it really helps. Laura Age 47, Utica, NY. Name: cheryl Subject: beginner knitter Comment: I've been reading all these comments and am feeling very encouraged. So far I've knitted a lot, but only blankets and scarfs. I'm ready now to branch out and try a hat, socks and then maybe even a scarf! Name: rosie Subject: new to knitting Comment: I just learned to knit about a month ago and love it! I have crocheted before and bought a knitting loom to try it. I fell in love with the looms and decided I wanted to try knitting with needles. My neighbor taught be the basic stitch and the purl stitch. I bought a few books and am learning lots more. I am addicted to it! Whenever I have a stressful day at work I just pick up my needles and relax! Name: Undefined Subject: Knitting/school Comment: I started knitting when I was 11 years old, but I didn't get into actual patterns and crafts until I was 13. I remember how afraid I was when friends came over my house and saw all my knitting supplies, I was afraid that I was going to be made fun of since knitting wasn't a kid-thing back then. But then I took a bag that I made to school.... and now I make them for my friends and family :) Name: Anna Subject: Self taught knitter Comment: I taught my self how to knit after watching Knitty gritty one day when i was 14 and I have made lots of interesting things I have started to create my own patterns. The funny thing is my mom crochets and tried to teach me but it bored me a little and then after I started to knit my mom told me how her mom and nana both knit and knitting made me feel closer to them and closer to my mom. Thank You SO much for the directory most of what I've made is either from links here or inspired by links here. Name: Allison (13) Subject: Christmas is so much easier! Comment: I first learned to knit around 6 years old, forgot, learned agian around 10. One day i wore a scarf i had made to school, and my friends were so amazed by it (in truth i htink it was the cool yarn) and they all wanted scraves. chrsitmas was easy that year, i knit up scarves for everyone! adn they loved them.
